Conversations With Colton

My Story Of Fear, Faith, AND Doubt

Hello, There! I’m Julie

I’m an author and mommy blogger! I’m so glad you’re here! A few things about me:

I’m a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit junkie; literacy advocate, spouse to a retired Air Force airman, and mama who is simply making it through the day by the grace of caffeine and Jesus. I have a degree in broadcast journalism and criminal justice from the University of Maryland in College Park. I went on to work in television specializing in crime TV and then advanced to investigations with the federal government. My most favorite job has been being mommy and I’m most recently known on social media by my recurring pieces #conversationswithcolton. I live in Oklahoma with my husband, son and puppy named Rocky.

I’d like you to meet my favorite people!

This Is My Family!

Colton is 8 and in the 2nd grade! He loves ALL things SPORTS but especially Ice Hockey. Chris is retired from the Air Force and served over 20 years training, and working with military working dogs

Our Story

When In The Moment Will You Choose Faith Over Fear Or Fear Over Faith?

It’s an easy question to answer when you aren’t in the “storm” but a huge question when something near and dear to you is in jeopardy.

I dreamed of becoming a mommy. I dreamed of a perfect life for and with my child. After suffering a miscarriage and a cancer diagnosis, finding out I was pregnant was an incredible miracle. But what happened next put my faith to the test, more so than the previous trials. I struggled with keeping my faith while I was caught in a “storm.”” Conversations with Colton will explore just that! Colton survived despite what doctors said, and conversations with him have made all the fear, faith, and doubt that got to this moment 100 percent worth it.

What People Are Saying:

I loved this quick, heartfelt read by my friend, Julie, about her journey to motherhood and her ball of fire son, Colton. As I read it, I heard it all in her voice because she writes the same way she speaks and I enjoy reading stories like that. I’ve loved hearing all of the hilarious Conversations with Colton through Julie’s Facebook posts (he truly is the funniest kid on the planet) over the years but this book was so much more. I love seeing Julie’s faith in God through her storm and what she has done with it! 💙-Blair

Conversations with Colton is a heartwarming and inspiring set of short stories framed within a larger lesson about choosing faith over fear. The book is full of relatable anecdotes and real life examples of one family’s journey through “fear, faith, and doubt” as they navigate the birth and raising of a child that could only be described as a miracle. The reader joins the author’s skillfully written story as she relays it from past to present and back again, all the while weaving in conversations with her son that are honestly so funny that I laughed out loud multiple times! Catania-Shady reminds the reader that even when things seem uncertain, messy, complicated, you have to “keep flying”. The authors writing style is engaging and conversational, making the reader feel like they’re having a conversation with an old friend (while sitting in Starbucks, of course 😉 Its a very easy read. Super inspirational. I highly recommend it to everyone! -HH

Conversations with Colton is a true, real life, raw honesty book! It shares fear, struggle and faith, leaving the reader breathless. Sometime from laughter and others from tears. Julie is refreshingly real about things most of us face in different ways. She offers inspiration and encouragement leaving the reader feel like what ever they are facing will not last forever and it really is worth it!
I highly recommend this book!
Hoping she will write a sequel or series…
